It was 5 degrees this morning when heading into the woods to tap, colder then yesterday.   It may have warmed to about 10 or 12, but all day long the snow squeaked under foot when walking on it.   We covered our face with a bandanna to prevent frost bite.  As cold as it was, you still sweat.  A lot.  We may have gotten a bit dehydrated during the day because of all the sweating.  We did not have water with us because it would have froze.

Dressed for Tapping

Dressed for tapping on a cold day of 5 degrees

Much less snow in the woods this year compared to last year.  That makes it easier to walk.  We did get gaiters for our shoes to stop snow from spilling over the tops where it melts and causes wet, cold feet.  Our fingers and toes stayed toasty all day.

Dramatic weather changes forecast.  By Tuesday and Wednesday (March 10 & 11) we reach into the 40s.

We did get 150 taps out.  With the 50 from yesterday we now have 200 taps out.
