{"id":614,"date":"2019-03-20T00:00:16","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T00:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.mapleacres.com\/?p=614"},"modified":"2020-02-08T21:40:35","modified_gmt":"2020-02-08T21:40:35","slug":"700-galllons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mapleacres.com\/?p=614","title":{"rendered":"700 Galllons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>26 overnight.\u00a0 Sunny and 45 today.\u00a0 The last three days have been the idyllic weather associated with maple syrup season:\u00a0 \u00a0freezing nights, sunny days, the snow sill in the woods but melting.\u00a0 We seldom get that.<\/p>\n<p>Into the woods by 6:30 AM to wash the finishing pan.\u00a0 Had help at 7:30 to dump in a milk can syrup.\u00a0 We needed to bottle to free up milk cans for more syrup.\u00a0 We had two full milk cans of syrup and started on a third.\u00a0 We knew we would collect today and that meant more syrup coming.\u00a0 Bottled 27 quarts.\u00a0 Grade A Robust.\u00a0 The first syrup is usually lighter.<\/p>\n<p>Trees started dripping by 10:00 AM.\u00a0 The sap from yesterday was already in the buckets so we knew there would be a big haul.\u00a0 Set out collecting at 3:00 PM.\u00a0 \u00a0Many full or overflowing pails.\u00a0 We had storage for 600 gallons.\u00a0 Had a spare 100 gallon tank at the yet that we setup.\u00a0 We ended up with 700 gallons of sap.<\/p>\n<p>Our new pump and hoses with quick connect finally worked as envisioned.\u00a0 This was a good to get the pump and hoses figured out..\u00a0 The pump problem was a bad extension cord that didn\u2019t deliver the volts or amps the pump needed to turn over.\u00a0 It takes about 12 minutes to empty the collecting tank.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow we cook.\u00a0 Most likely we won\u2019t cook through all 700 gallons.\u00a0 \u00a0Need to check if we have to collect tomorrow again.\u00a0 But the dripping did slow down by 5:00 PM which is good.\u00a0 Forecast is 33 overnight with clouds and snow showered tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>26 overnight.\u00a0 Sunny and 45 today.\u00a0 The last three days have been the idyllic weather associated with maple syrup season:\u00a0 \u00a0freezing nights, sunny days, the snow sill in the woods but melting.\u00a0 We seldom get that.
