On Saturday we worked on another tank plumbing project.\u00a0 Replaced the PVC butterfly values with brass ball values that have a lever type handle.\u00a0 When we thaw out the\u00a0 PVC butterfly with the heat-gun, the PVC expands and causes the value to stick.\u00a0 Its a challenge to open.\u00a0 \u00a0The brass should respond better to the heat and the handle is a lever.<\/p>\n
But we did not follow the golden rule:\u00a0 measure twice, cut one.\u00a0 The piping is shaped like a big Y with the joint abutting the outside wall.\u00a0 The new bass values add about 5 1\/4\u201d more length on the outside.\u00a0 Without thinking or measuring we cut off that 5 1\/4\u201d from the stem pipe inside the building.\u00a0 \u00a0 The ends of the Y outside now extended past the tank fittings.<\/p>\n
Today we fixed that.\u00a0 The pipes had an unneeded drain value.\u00a0 We wanted to remove them anyway.\u00a0 As it turns out, those values were about 5 1\/4\u201d on the outside.\u00a0 We disassembled the pipes to remove the values.\u00a0 Checked the fit.\u00a0 We should be good.\u00a0 We need to replace the inside stem pipe because its too short.\u00a0 Planning to get PVC for that in place of the iron pipe that was used.<\/p>\n\n\n
