{"id":473,"date":"2016-03-23T17:12:13","date_gmt":"2016-03-23T12:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.mapleacres.com\/?p=473"},"modified":"2020-02-23T20:02:26","modified_gmt":"2020-02-23T15:02:26","slug":"collected-before-the-blizzard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mapleacres.com\/?p=473","title":{"rendered":"Collected Before The Blizzard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yup, we are forecast for a blizzard.&nbsp; 8-12 inches of snow with 30-40 mph winds.&nbsp; Snow started at 11:45 AM.&nbsp; After Midnight the blizzard moves in with the winds and heavy snow.&nbsp;&nbsp; Although the snow fall gets heavier every hour preceding Midnight.&nbsp; Ends after 1:00 PM Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Into the woods by 9:30 to check the buckets.&nbsp; Not a lot:&nbsp; pint to quart, some with more.&nbsp; But very nice sap.&nbsp; So we got organized to collect.&nbsp; Called help.&nbsp; Fueled the tractor.&nbsp; Washed tanks.&nbsp; Started solo by 10:45 AM.&nbsp; By 11:30 had two helpers.&nbsp; Finished by 12:30 PM.&nbsp; 140 gallons.&nbsp; Snow started falling while we were collecting.&nbsp; Didn&#8217;t accumulate yet because the ground was still too warm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Battened down the sugar shack for the storm.&nbsp; Setup up the tank heaters.&nbsp;&nbsp; Checked that all doors are securely closed.<\/p>\n<p>Snow coming in from the Northeast.&nbsp; The woods actually looks pretty now as the snow sticks to the trees making them all white.&nbsp; Snow has been accumulating for the past hour already.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Blizzards are energizing for us.&nbsp; Its enjoyable watching the storm rage from the kitchen window.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After the storm weather pattern looks favorable again for sap.&nbsp; 18 Thursday night.&nbsp; But high 30s and upper 20s Friday, Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yup, we are forecast for a blizzard.&nbsp; 8-12 inches of snow with 30-40 mph winds.&nbsp; Snow started at 11:45 AM.&nbsp; After Midnight the blizzard moves in with the winds and heavy snow.&nbsp;&nbsp; Although the snow fall gets heavier every hour preceding Midnight.&nbsp; Ends after 1:00 PM Thursday.
