Into the woods by 7:45 AM. \u00a0Cleaned the syrup pan. Got water. \u00a0Washed the 225 gallon storage tank then pumped the collecting tank into the storage tank. \u00a0But 9:00 AM \u00a0boiling and running in sap into the evaporator. \u00a0 The goal for the day was emptying the 225 gallon storage tank and bottling.<\/p>\n

Got a milk can of syrup on the finishing pan by 10:30 AM. \u00a0 When filtering it, we did not use enough filter aid so the syrup would not go through the filter. \u00a0We only have a hand pump on the filter press and we could hardly push \u00a0it down because the filter papers were clogged. \u00a0Back into the finishing pan and try again with more filter aid. \u00a0 That worked.<\/p>\n

Bottled 31 quarts. \u00a0First syrup of the season.<\/p>\n

We did not accomplish the second goal. \u00a0 Boiled well until about 5:00 PM. \u00a0Then we got a nitre build up on the syrup pan. \u00a0 That spoils the boiling. \u00a0In 1 \u00bd to 2 hrs we could have been done. \u00a0 But with the nitre it was pointless to continue boiling. \u00a0So we ended early. \u00a0Tomorrow we will clean the syrup pan again and finish boiling. \u00a0And we have to bottle. \u00a0We have two milk can of syrup.<\/p>\n

Freezing tonight. \u00a0Tomorrow up to 38. \u00a0Hoping for sap. \u00a0The coming week’s forecast is for favorable weather patterns of freeze\/thaw.<\/p>\n
