Tractor started this morning without a problem.\u00a0\u00a0 Put out 50 taps.\u00a0 Left the tractor running in woods while we worked.\u00a0 Came back to house for more buckets.\u00a0 Shut off the tractor.\u00a0 We did this to see if problems starting\u00a0would\u00a0return.\u00a0 There were problems. \u00a0The engine turned over but would not fire. \u00a0Drained the battery and needed to charge it.\u00a0 Hit it hard with starter fluid.\u00a0 Finally it started to fire.\u00a0 It didn’t start right away but it was trying.\u00a0 A few more attempts and it was running.\u00a0 It should not be this hard to start.\u00a0 Plugs, points, coil all replaced now.\u00a0 This is frustrating.<\/p>\n
Put out 168 taps today.\u00a0 That gives up 468.\u00a0 We will find 7 more so we have 475.\u00a0 We tried 75 of the smaller 5\/16\u201d plastic spouts.\u00a0 Broke the first bit before we finished the first tap hole with it.\u00a0\u00a0 Seemed to be a flaw in the metal used in the bit.\u00a0\u00a0 But we did have another.\u00a0 These spouts seem to work well.\u00a0 The aluminum pails hang well on these spouts.\u00a0 Sap flowed well.\u00a0 And a smaller hole is easier on the tree: it heals over faster.\u00a0 We tapped smaller trees with this spout: 10\u201d-12\u201d diameter.\u00a0\u00a0 We were staying above 14\u201d diameter with the 7\/16\u201d stainless steel spout.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
