Our plan was to start tapping around 8:00 AM.\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0 Tractor trouble.\u00a0 It would not start again.\u00a0 Called the mechanic.\u00a0 He was busy in the morning.\u00a0 Got here around 12:30.\u00a0 Of course he got the tractor started without any problem.\u00a0 We felt a bit embarrassed.\u00a0\u00a0 He held the choke out until the tractor fired.\u00a0 We were releasing the choke much sooner and hence starving it for fuel.\u00a0 Our choke method had worked for years.\u00a0 So something changed in the engine.\u00a0\u00a0 But the tractor has a lot of years on it.\u00a0 The expertise of a mechanic who can hear and feel these changes can resolve these type of problems easily.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
While waiting for the mechanic we loaded the pickup truck with buckets and covers and headed out to tap.\u00a0 This was about 11:15 AM.\u00a0 We did not want to waste the whole day.\u00a0 Sap is moving in the trees.\u00a0\u00a0 We stayed close to the building where we could carry buckets and covers.\u00a0\u00a0 We got 80 taps out.\u00a0 Went for lunch.\u00a0 After lunch we did 105 taps then loaded up again and tapped another 65.\u00a0\u00a0 We should have 300 taps now.\u00a0\u00a0 Tomorrow we push for another 100 \u2013 200 taps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
