It seems absurd to think about the end of the season already.\u00a0\u00a0 Yet the long term 10 day weather forecast is not favorable.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Highs in the 60s.\u00a0 Lows in the 40s.\u00a0\u00a0 It may be cooler here by the lake.\u00a0 But these temperatures will cut short the season.\u00a0 We need highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s.\u00a0\u00a0 Two seasons ago in 2010 we had a 10 day warm spell too.\u00a0\u00a0 We waited it out and finished with an average season.\u00a0\u00a0 But with the warm winter this year conditions may be different.\u00a0\u00a0 There is no frost in the ground and no snow cover.\u00a0 Two seasons ago the frost was still in the ground and snow on the ground when the warm weather arrived.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We will watch the trees for signs of budding and watch for other changes to the living plants in the woods.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Down to the lows 20s last night.\u00a0 Today only made it up to 30.\u00a0 No new sap.\u00a0 We are still working on our 620 pickup from the other day.\u00a0 Tonight is also cold.\u00a0 Down to the lows 20s again.\u00a0\u00a0 But tomorrow and Sunday its forecast for near 60.\u00a0\u00a0 That is unsettling.<\/p>\n
We were worried about frozen pipes this morning.\u00a0\u00a0 A tank valve isn’t sealing properly so its leaking into the pipe to the evaporator.\u00a0\u00a0 We usually drain that pipe because it will freeze if liquid remains in the pipe.\u00a0\u00a0 Last night we had to leave liquid in the pipe.\u00a0 But it must have been warmer in the building as the pipe did not freeze.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Last night around mid-night the wind picked up real strong and blew away the frosting of snow we received.\u00a0\u00a0 It was mostly bare this morning.\u00a0\u00a0 The snow looked so pretty last night.<\/p>\n
Into the woods by 8:00 AM.\u00a0 Back to the house by 8:00 PM so 12 hours.\u00a0\u00a0 Cooked all day.\u00a0 Struggled to get good rolling boils in the evaporator.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Couldn’t push through the amount of sap we wanted.\u00a0\u00a0 We still have about 160 gallons to cook down.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
