It was down to 13 again last night.\u00a0 But warmed quickly.\u00a0 By 10:00 AM puddles appeared.\u00a0 Past days it took to 11:00 AM for puddles.\u00a0 It got up to 45 this afternoon.\u00a0 Sunny all day. \u00a0<\/p>\n
We had a lot to do today so it was constantly moving to get everything done. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Cleaned the evaporator pan first thing this morning.\u00a0 Then got the milk can of syrup into the finishing pan.\u00a0 When the syrup is finished we put in through our filter press.\u00a0 Unfortunately we got two of the pieces of the filter press in wrong.\u00a0 We had to take it apart to correct the problem and then re-filter the syrup.\u00a0 Wasn’t the complete batch.\u00a0 We caught it early because we noticed the press was pumping hard.<\/p>\n
We bottled 26 quarts.\u00a0 Used our new digital thermometer to monitor the temperature in the bottling pan.\u00a0 The syrup should not boil.\u00a0 We keep it between 185 and 200 degrees. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Cleaned our collecting and storage tanks.\u00a0 We don’t want fresh sap in dirty tanks.\u00a0 We knew we would not have help to collect today again so tried to get an early start.\u00a0 We also knew a lot of sap was in the woods.\u00a0 We got started by 2:30 PM.\u00a0 By 5:10 PM we had the first 200 gallons.\u00a0\u00a0 Emptied into the storage tank then back out.\u00a0\u00a0 By now the trees and an extra three hours to drip and melt.\u00a0 A lot of the buckets were now full.\u00a0 We ended up with 430 gallons.\u00a0 We had to carry in the last 30 because the tank was full. \u00a0<\/p>\n
We now have 2320 gallons of sap collected.\u00a0 There should still be another 400 to 600 gallons coming for the season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
