We got the H back!\u00a0\u00a0 The repair shop called about 11:00 AM.\u00a0 By 11:40 AM they arrived with their trailer and unloaded the H.\u00a0\u00a0 They fixed the generator too so now the battery will actually charge!\u00a0 We knew it needed fixing.\u00a0 We had not specifically asked for that but they saw it needed fixing and did it.\u00a0 We are grateful.\u00a0 A lot of work, and expense, went into it but it was all needed and we have working tractor again. <\/p>\n
Into the woods by 7:30 AM to start boiling.\u00a0 There were still hot coals under the evaporator from Thursday.\u00a0\u00a0 Took two batches of syrup off the evaporator.\u00a0\u00a0 As the day went on we thinking of the best use of our time.\u00a0\u00a0 We had to dig out the spot where the LP tank goes.\u00a0 Did that inbetween firing.\u00a0\u00a0 We wanted to get out 13 more taps.\u00a0\u00a0 Did that inbetween firing too.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But was there sap?<\/p>\n
It was cloudy all day.\u00a0 A little windy, but nothing like what was forecast.\u00a0 The forecast was for 30 mph winds, but we got nothing like\u00a0 that.\u00a0\u00a0 It was down to maybe 30 overnight so the trees dripped into the night.\u00a0\u00a0 There was about 2 quarts in the pails.\u00a0 A few were half full.\u00a0 The question became do we continue boiling, or go collect?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The weather forecast says tomorrow will be colder.\u00a0 Maybe 32.\u00a0 We can boil in the cold but any sap in buckets will freeze.\u00a0 So we went out collecting.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What’s liquid today will be ice tomorrow so get it will we can.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We ended up collecting 200 gallons.\u00a0 A lot of that was from what ran into the last night. \u00a0<\/p>\n
A neighbor stopped by to help.\u00a0\u00a0 Since he had a pickup truck we asked him to get a tank of LP gas for us first.\u00a0\u00a0 Last year we picked up an extra tank of LP gas so we would have it.\u00a0\u00a0 Unfortunately it leaked out over the year so the tank was empty.\u00a0\u00a0 Getting a full tank of LP was also a major accomplishment for the day as we need the gas to finish the syrup and during bottling.\u00a0 Tomorrow we will be finishing and bottling and need it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
