Into the woods by 7:30 AM to start the evaporator.\u00a0 It was cold again last night.\u00a0 It was down to 10 at 6:30 AM.\u00a0 The tanks did not freeze.\u00a0 But the pipes to the evaporator did.\u00a0 No liquid was in the pipes overnight.\u00a0 We think as the sap from the tanks hit the cold, smaller pipes that it froze.\u00a0 We took the pipes apart and warmed them the gas burner.\u00a0\u00a0 That worked to get them open.\u00a0\u00a0 It was 9:30 AM before we had a fire going under the evaporator. \u00a0<\/p>\n
It was nice sunny day.\u00a0 It got up to 44.\u00a0\u00a0 The sap started to run, but again it was so cold over night that it takes time for the sun to do its magic.\u00a0 There was not enough sap in the buckets to collect today.\u00a0 We hope to collect tomorrow.<\/p>\n
We did cook through the 300 gallons of sap from yesterday.\u00a0 Ended up the first 10 quarts of maple syrup for the season.<\/p>\n
A few visitors today.\u00a0\u00a0 We were able to get both parents into the woods.\u00a0 Mother, who is 82, was tasting the partially finished sap from the evaporator and commented \u201cThat’s the good stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
This is the \u201cgood stuff.\u201d\u00a0 Beautiful spring day.\u00a0\u00a0 Sunny and nice in the woods.\u00a0 The wonderful aroma of cooking maple syrup.\u00a0\u00a0 And family with us.<\/p>\n
